ReplyDeleteBefor attending class today, I knew little about the topic of prepositions. In my country, I don't need to learn it. I think that prepositions aren't easy to use. I want to know more about functions of prepositions.
After attending class today, I learned what is the functions of time of prepositions. Moreover, I knew the specific format of time of prepositions. I still want to know other specific format of prepositions. I think that they are useful for my writing

ReplyDeleteBefore Reading: I know how to response questions, but I use formal and long sentences to response them. I think I should use dailt English to response questions.
After Reading: I learnded how to response questions clearly with short sentences. I still want to know more American style conversation.
Reflection (One) 9/17/2011
ReplyDeleteThis is the second class of Business English. Today we talk about making suggestions, apologizing, socializing and positive responses and something about the grammar, such as words in context and compound. I think the most helpful thing in this class is making suggestions. Before this class, I don’t know there are many way to make suggestions in our real life. I used to usually use “maybe you can…..”, ”Shall we……” and “I think….”. I don’t know the different of them and what is the effect and better word in making suggestions. After this class I learn a class, it is really helpful. I want to learn more about how to speak well in my life and business.

In this class, it was really fun, especially when we talk about compliment. It is true that “In speaking well of others, you speak well of yourself.” Therefore, it is very important that we have to learn how to compliment others. In the new class room, meeting new friends, how to talk with others you don’t know in the beginning?

You see. It is easy, isn’t it? After class, I was very happy that I can see the detail of our homework through Professor Westry ’s blog. In addition, we can share our opinions in our blog.

Before attending class today, I knew something about compliments and conversation using, expressing obligation, making suggestions and apologizing, but it wasn't quite in a right way. This class educated me a lot and I now can use those expressions in my daily conversations with American friends in a right way.
I have also learned so much about how to write professional memos, complaint letters and my own resume.
I want to learn more about writing for business but I'm sure that I'll be a profession in business as Americans after I finish this class.

ReplyDeleteBefore attending this class, I know little about compliments and conversation , Although it is common to give and accept compliments. Personally , these compliments and conversation should be unformal , Maybe , I made many mistakes. I want to know how to give compliments with a correct way. I learned varieties of ways to give compliments. For example,"you look great" etc In addition,I don't know clearly about the emotion and the tone of these sentences. after the class , I certainly know the correct emotion to express ideas.I still want to know how to use an usual emotion to express the idea in other situation such as in store, in restaurant.

Before taking this class , I knew some sentences to communicate with others when we meet at the first time and a few words to compliment others. I look forward to studying how to reply when someone compliment myself and how to get a further conversation after saying “Hello”.
After take this class, I learned the difference among the distinct words to expressing obligation. I knew how to give a invitation, how to compliment others and how to answer it. Finally ,I understand the format of writing a letter for requesting a service. Furthermore , I still want to know some topics that most of people here appeal to talk about, how to take part in a group quickly.

ReplyDeleteThe course of the class is already familiar to me as the same course used to be in my high school. But the difference I think is the format as in my country British English is followed. A new work in this course I will be learning is "Research paper" and writing the "resume". I enjoy the class as the professor is very friendly and the way of teaching is also good and easy to understand.I hope to learn a lot from the class which will be useful for me in my professional career.
Before attending this class, I do not know how to use compliments for daily communication. But I have known it is really significant in American social after this class. So I sill want to know more the skills in using compliments. Professor Westry, please teach us more communication skills and traditional American culture. I am waiting for it.

Today i learnt about "Managerial Communication". I use to thought that the manager communication was mostly by e-mails. But after the class I was cleared that E-mails are not the only form of communication but the speech and interaction is also important. I also learnt that there is always a hierarchy in the organization. The communication need to follow this protocol.

Moreover communication exists in our daily life widely. But I made many mistakes before. After this class,I know much about communication. Personally,communication is a kind of art.There are two types of communication include "verbal and nonverbal"and many factors affect individual communication.Anyhow,communication plays an essential rule in our lives. In addition those things, I still want to know the tone and emotion when I communicate with my friends and families. So that we all are comfortable.

reflection about writting a resume
ReplyDeleteBefore I read Business English material, I knew a few things about the topic. For example I didn’t know how I can start to write a resume. I just knew that I need to write resume to get a good job. I need to learn how to start it. Should I write everything about my special life or it should be short? Do I suppose to add my photo or not? I wanted to learn them. After I took this class, I learned that the best resume should be short and without photo. Also I learned that I shouldn’t write everything about my special life and I must start to write my education chronologically and I realized HR managers don’t interest my high school information. Briefly; I learned that the best resume is short and simple one.

However, after the class , I know that there are two types of communication: verbal and nonverbal ,and mangers like oral more than other ways to communicate ,so It gives me an idea that which way should be selected to communicate with a manager .Moreover ,I learn that a number of factors can affect individual communication such as stereotyping ,projection, perceptual defense .and it alerts me that what I should notice to avoid the mistake when I communicate with others. In addition, the reading materials make me understand the two types of communication networks and how they works .They are useful ,so I want to learn more materials related to the managerial communication .Thank you ,Professor!

After reading the material I know the common definition of leadership and leaders use six major types of power to effect the behavior of others.As we know, leaders play significant role in a team.Different leaders have different mission.They motivate their staffs.My major is MBA, personally,maybe in the future ,I will be a leader .So this thing would be valuable for me .
